Academic Decathlon Team

The mission of the Academic Decathlon Team is to promote learning and academic excellence among students of varying achievement levels by developing and providing multidisciplinary academic competitions using USAD-based curricula.

Aca–Deca provides students the opportunity to excel academically through team competition. The team of nine-members is comprised of three “A,” three “B” and three“C” students who participate in ten grueling events in the annual Academic Decathlon, including art, economics, language & literature, mathematics, music, science and social science. In addition, the contestants perform prepared and impromptu speeches, write essays on a given topic and are interviewed by a panel of judges. The final event, the Super Quiz Relay, is open to the public at both the county and state level.

PVHS has won the Butte County Championship 14 times in the 16 years of its existence.

The coaching position for this team is a volunteer position and funding is not provided other than through generous donations.

The team needs include the purchase of study materials as well as expenses at the
state competition.
