The two comprehensive high school libraries in Chico, Pleasant Valley High and Chico High, are teaming up with Lyon Books to help put new books in the hands of teenagers by having a book drive. The book drive concept is simple. Between now and April 30, just drop off your good-condition used books at Lyon Books. The books will go on a credit for the local high schools to purchase new books that are requested by students at the high school libraries.
At this time of very limited and frozen funding, we want to come up with a way to keep students interested and motivated to read. Appealing, new books in high-interest subjects are the best way to do this and through the book drive, the libraries can select materials that will enhance their collections and meet the needs and interests of students.
So, as you are doing your spring cleaning, make a clean sweep of your bookshelves and bring those bestsellers you probably won't read again, the classics you no longer need and your health, gardening and other good-condition books to Lyon Books and specify they are to benefit local high school libraries. Thanks for supporting teens and reading.
