Home Economics PhotoThe Pleasant Valley High School Home Economics department motto is “Skills for Living and Earning a Living”. We have a strong core skill set that includes Personal Leadership, Goal Setting, Decision Making, Career Exploration, Communication, Nutrition, Family Living, Consumer Education, Child Development and Fashion/Interior Design. The three applied career industry sectors our students focus on include:

  • Education and Human Services
  • Culinary and Hospitality
  • Fashion and Interior Design

We offer the following range of coursework:

HERO 11

All of our classes, except freshman level receive dual credit (2+2 - Community College Credits)

ACE-LIFE integrated courses include California Partnership Academy that sequence is Life Management, Human Development, HERO 11, HERO 12 and Careers with Kids.

The culinary and hospitality program is recognized by the National and California Restaurant Association as a Prostart school.

We have an active Vocational Student Organization, FHA-HERO, and SAGE - Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship.

Our department benefits from broad-based community support. We have fifty active business partners for student placement. The Elks Lodge has donated funds for the SAGE team, California Restaurant Association has underwritten lab coats and competitions, local chefs have donated hundreds of in-kind hours and supplies to help with student projects and for mentoring oversight. Mentors can be utilized for one day, every week, on their jobsites or at our school.


In the future, we will continue to develop the strong CORE freshman programs and 3 career pathways. We are applying for a California Partnership Academy grant for Culinary and Hospitality and remodernization of the facility. We would like to continue the strong training plans and partnerships, increase training opportunities, community service, mentoring, and upgrade instructional training materials.

Current Needs:

We have needs relevant to equipment, supplies, uniforms, field trips, conventions, student portfolios, job-relevant training, textbooks, instructional supplies of a wide variety, upgrading technology, teacher training and support for community service projects.
